There is not much maintenance involved in taking care of your falls - if they become smelly with smoke etc., simply air them out outdoors or spray them with deodorizer. To store them simply hang them up when you are not wearing them on a coat hanger or door handle, for example.
Water will not ruin your extensions!. You do not need to wash your scalp as often as normal; I normally suggest once or twice a week. You do not need to wash the extensions themselves if you are going to wash your hair. Simply wash your scalp with a mixture of diluted shampoo (as it will run though the sections a lot better than normal shampoo) and pour over your scalp. Rub your scalp to lather the soap and then rinse in the shower letting the shampoo run through your extensions. Your extensions will get very heavy as the dreads soak up the water like a sponge; just ring the water out and towel dry gently. The ends may take a couple of hours to dry and the water runs from the base of the dreads. You may also use a blow dryer lightly to quicken the drying process. IMPORTANT: Make sure you get all of the soap out of your hair. If there is any soap residue left on your scalp, this will cause your scalp to itch profusely.
If you experience itchiness or dry scalp while wearing your extensions you can try rubbing some tea tree oil onto your scalp or pick up some alcohol-based scalp solution from your local pharmacy (ie. Scalpicin) - you will find it in the hair spray or dandruff shampoo aisle. This will minimize itch and dryness and also cleanse the scalp and remove odours. It also tends to take smells out as it is an alcohol base and evapourates into the air.
Your dreads will virtually last you forever provided you take care of them. The may loosen up and get a little fuzzy after time but will never loose their "dread" shape. If you do not like the fuzzies simply snip them off.
I can resteam your dreads for you for a small fee. You will also need to pay for shipping to and from me.
I can install your dreads for you provided you live in my area (Kitchener-Waterloo Ontario Canada). Please see the others section for prices. I am willing to travel but only small distances (and there will be a charge for gasoline along with my driving time).
I have installed dreads on hair that is about 1 1/2 inches but I prefer at least 3 inches of hair.
If you need your dreads by a certain date just let me know and I can get started on them right away (pending I have received payment). Rush orders are subject to a $5-10 CND fee. I will however still need about a week to complete them and have them shipped off. Please inquire first about rush order, things are generally pretty busy.
Everyones hair is different and this is a personal thing. I suggest only up to 3 months. Your hair will grow while the extensions are in and may start to pull on your scalp due to the weight of the extensions. It is also a good idea to take them out and give your head a rest at the 3 month mark. Also, the newly grown hair may have a tendency to dread up if let to grow too long as it can twist and matte together. I normally take my out after 6-8 weeks because I like to dye my hair and change it every so often.
I am willing to travel as long as it is not too far away. I would require you to pay me gas money (I will quote you a price which I feel resonable for my trip and time) along with the installation fee.
I prefer double ended dreads. It is much easier to hide the braids on the dreads when you install them and there is also less braiding involved in putting them in so they are easier to install. I provide single looped dreads for my customers as an option, if they prefer this kind of dread. Single looped dreads are also great for adding fullness and coloured accents if you already have natural dreads.
Your dreads will definitely loosen up after the first few days. After installation the dreads are pretty tight to your scalp and need a few days to relax. The dreads themselves will also appear less stiff and have more give after the first few days and will be easier to work with and put into neat little updos! The dreads come pretty solid and stiff right after steaming and need awhile to loosen themselves.
Everyone has a different experience with elastics. I try to provide the best elastics I have found on the market although some breakage is inevitable. I use rubber elastics as they have a tendency to be more forgiving and snap less than the platic shiny elastics provided by most stores.
I suggest doubling up the elastics during the installation as a backup preventative method. The elastics may snap for a few reasons; the longer you leave them in the more the natural oils can degrade the elastics and they will snap over time, also depending on how rough you are with your hair may also snap some elastics.
I provide packages of elastics for $4 CAD and you will receive 250 elastics per package, so replace them as needed.
Yes!! Water will not hurt your extensions! They will get heavy (as the dreads soak up water like a sponge) but ring out the water and towel dry carefully. I have also had customers inquire about mold growth as this is known to happen with real dreads when they are constantly wet. These dreads will not grow mold, they can dry pretty quickly as they are a synthetic plastic and can be cleaned really easily. The are completely different than natural hair dreads as mold will not have a tendency to grow on them.
With every good custom company, there can be a wait. Divinity dreads is a very busy business; since everything is custom and hand made by only one person it can sometimes take awhile. The wait depends on the size of your order and the demand for dreads at the time. Please inquire for the specific turnaround time at the time of your order and I will do my best to provide you with a estimated time of arrival. Your patience as a customer is very much appreciated!!! We all know waiting sucks but the dreads you will receive will virtually last you a life time provided you take care of them; you will have them to wear for years to come!
Yes you can! Just make sure to penetrate your roots with the dye really well and rinse all the dye out and there will not be a problem!
